Moving Day - July 8, 2010

Our shipping container pulled into our driveway yesterday morning at 8:00. We were amazed that by 10:30 the doors were shut and it was driving away, loaded with our stuff. The reason that it was loaded so quickly is because we had lots of man power who showed up to help. What a blessing to see their eagerness and also to observe how much fun they had.
Our house was emptied in approximately one hours' time! We took a bit of a break at that point and I served coffee and fresh cinnamon rolls while the guys waited for the mover to organize the container before they handed him more stuff.
We hired the mover (packer) from the company to help with the packing and to supervise the loading of the container. After all of the work was done, and shortly before he left, he commented to us on the wonderful crew that we had. He was very impressed that so many men came (9 altogether) and also observed the comradery among them. He said if he asked his friends for help they would not show up! So thank-you, guys! You were not only a huge blessing to Tim and I, but you also were a testimony to John, the moving man!

Semi truck with our 40 foot container!

We filled almost 2/3 of the container. Tim is pointing to the spot that it was filled to. There was room for much more, but the next smallest container - a 20 foot - would have been too small. So we opted for a 40 foot.

It was a very strange feeling to see the truck driving away with "our life" inside and to know that our container is about to make a very long journey across the ocean to Houston in the Gulf of Mexico where it will then be transported over land to our door in Colorado Springs. Estimated delivery date is in 4 weeks.
Our packer said that I should take a picture of this yellow pin. He placed it in this handle after the doors were closed. He said that this is a security pin that insures that our container has been locked and that no one may open it until it reaches the States.

Our very empty (and very clean!) house. We are sad to leave it! It has been a wonderful place to live and full of a lot of happy memories.
