Happy Reunion

Kyra was in my small group at BFA for three wonderful years. She graduated from BFA one year ago. This summer she has been working with Campus Crusade in Colorado. Yesterday she came to Colorado Springs for a quick visit, and we enjoyed catching up with each other.

Sunday Evening Hike In Ute Valley Park

Beautiful evening for a hike! We are experiencing what is called monsoon season in Colorado Springs. We have been enjoying sunshine every day, but during monsoon season we often get late afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by rain, sometimes downpours. We are noticing how these rains have changed the landscape from "cardboard brown" to refreshing green.

Luke's Second Family

Meet the Mcllvoys, a special family to us and especially to Luke.
Some years back they were living in Germany where they served at Black Forest Academy as dorm parents. That is when we first got to know them.
Then, during the summer of 2010 when Luke was in San Francisco and interning for Wired magazine, he lived with Rob and Cathy and their family of four boys and two loveable cats. They welcomed him with open arms and made him feel at home right from the start. Luke fell in love with them (and maybe even the cats) and was sad to say good-bye to them at the end of the summer when it was time to head back to college.
Since last summer a lot has happened in the Mcllvoy's lives. God has moved them from their youth pastor ministry in SF to the Dominican Republic where they are serving as missionaries. We had the opportunity to meet up with them in Colorado Springs on July 11, before they flew to their new assignment in the D.R. on July 12.
We are so grateful to God for them, and look forward to hearing how God is going to use them as they continue to touch and bless many lives.

Hiking with Long-time Friends

The Raper family has been a part of the Shuman family since forever! When Tim was growing up back in Stow, Ohio, the Raper twins, Dan and Dave, were his best friends.
This morning we met up with Chad Raper (who moved to Colorado Springs this past Tuesday) and April Cho (Chad's sister who lives in Denver) and went on an epic 6.5 mile hike in the mountains. We had a wonderful time catching up on their lives and are looking forward to more hikes together. Chad and April are Dan and Dave's nephew and niece.

It really is true! The ponderosa pine gives off a vanilla/butterscotch scent when warmed by the sun.

NYC

Luke is having a great experience this summer interning in New York City with Sports Illustrated. Here is a view from the building and floor where he works.

Spending time with his girlfriend Andrea who came for a visit.

Awesome rainbow over NYC!
