Meet my heroes from Kenya. I have so much respect for these women who love on the children at the orphanage. As Joel, the man who runs the orphanage told me, "You have to feel called to this type of ministry, and these women are called." They are very dedicated and hard working. and show a tremendous amount of love and care for the 20 children entrusted to them.
Here is Florence, an amazing young lady. She speaks English very well and was our interpreter.
Here are Rose and Susan helping with food preparation.

Mama Paul, the lady who cooks for the orphanage. She made meals for us while we were there. The food was fantastic! Notice her wood-burning stove. Mama Paul's oldest son's name is Paul, hence her name. My name is Mama Luke!

Joel and Susan oversee the orphanage. They have a huge heart and deep passion for orphans. I asked Joel about their own three children. He corrected me and said' "These are all my children!" Amazing! Joel took me into his office and had me read the files of the children. 12 of the 20 who are currently at the home were abandoned by their parents/family. They have been rescued from tragic situations and have found hope and a new life at House of Hope.
Bernie and Celia oversee the work at Helping Hands, the school where half of our team served at. They did a great job of giving our team direction each day. We stayed in dormitory-style rooms on the school campus. It reminded me so much of camp!
New friends, Jason and Lisa. Lisa and I have sent many, many emails back and forth over the past 4 months in preparation for our trip. It was wonderful to finally meet her and her husband. They went out of their way to make our stay in Kenya a very positive experience. I am so grateful to God for them and all of their hard work on our behalf. It is a big challenge to host 24 people for a week, and they did an amazing job. They live way out in the bush and gave us the tremendous opportunity of being able to experience this for our last two nights. What a climax to our week long up front exposure to missions!
