Flower Market

You have to see it to believe it! Truly amazing! Bundles of orchid bouquets for sale for cheap! The creations the Thai people make with flowers is so artistic and beautiful. I think some of these unique arrangements were being made in preparation for the lantern festival. Certain arrangements of flowers are placed on the water and floated down the river during the festival.

Flowers Flowers Everywhere!

Check out the beautiful arrangements of flowers found in and around our hotel in Thailand!
This was in the hotel lobby when we checked in. What a nice welcome!

Our good friend, Libby, leading a seminar (on how to travel light). Notice the cascading roses on the stage! Oh my goodness! These are all real live flowers!

Two huge pots filled with this flower arrangement at the entrance to our hotel.

During our stay there were two wedding receptions at the hotel.

After the wedding reception was over, we went to check it out!

We had a welcome reception for conference speakers and seminar presenters in this beautiful room (which was once a tennis court).

Getting around Chiang Mai

One day during our stay in Chiang Mai, while Tim was in meetings, I hired a Songthaew - a red truck taxi - to take me to a local pottery factory. I wanted to purchase a Thia nativity.
My driver charged me $3 to drive me 15 minutes to the factory, wait a half hour for me at the factory while I shopped, and then drive me back to the hotel! Good deal! I gave him a nice tip since he was so kind to wait for me. He was very happy! (When I was done shopping I came out of the store and found him taking a nap in the back of the truck!)

Pictures taken from inside the "taxi".

Mission accomplished!

Visit to an Elephant Farm

The day after the conference we did some exploring and visited an elephant farm.

Getting a much appreciated bath!

Entertaining the tourists!

The elephants put on a show for us.....played a game of soccer...even had an elephant in goal!

Taken just after elephant kicked the soccer ball.

Elephant painting with water colors.

Elephant Ride

When we signed up to take an elephant tour, we were hoping to be part of a group (because its cheaper that way) but no one joined us, so we had a private tour guide which was, in the end, far better!
Instead of riding an elephant at the elephant farm, where we would have had to wait in line, he drove us further up the mountain to a private location with very few tourists. We still had to wait for a little awhile, but we enjoyed the beautiful drive and visiting with our driver. It was nice to get out of the city and enjoy the wonderful countryside in Thailand.

Our driver told us that this sign (out in the middle of no where!) said "Jesus is your Helper" :)

Here's a 30 second video of Tim and I on our elephant ride (just a tad bumpy!)
