Maroon Bells - Day 1

This morning we got up very early, while it was still dark outside, to drive to Maroon Bells to catch the sunrise. The Maroon Bells Peaks are said to be the most photographed mountain range in America. After visiting them this morning we can understand why. Interestingly, they got their name because of the color of the rock and because the formations have bell-like shapes.
Just before sunrise........

 Here comes the sun! Spectacular!

As the sun rose over the mountains, we took a very challenging hike from Maroon Bells Lake up to Crater Lake. The trail was very rocky and steep, and also muddy from an overnight rainfall. The views at the top were stunning.

The higher we hiked the more challenging it became, but the view kept getting better.
