Yesterday I hiked in one of the parks in the city that has re-opened following the fires. I saw firsthand one neighborhood where the fire had destroyed homes. I also was able to see how much of the mountainside had been scorched from the fire. I know that someday this mountainside will all be green again. That will take a long time, but it gives me hope!
First picture shows the whole mountainside burned from left to right. In the foreground (center right) is a neighborhood that was destroyed. The "firestorm" as it was called because that is exactly what it was, could have done far more destruction, but thanks to the heroic efforts of our firefighters (one of them from my hometown of Luseland, SK!!) 81% of the homes were saved.
Homes that were destroyed further up on the mountain.
