A Saturday Hike

Yesterday I drove up "our mountain", approximately 15 kms from our house, and went hiking in the deep snow. The scenery was beautiful!
However, I think I have seen enough snow for this year. I am ready for spring!

I think a deer or two would look really good in this picture! I wish I knew how to photoshop!

Lots of families were out sledding and cross country skiing.

Happy Valentines Day!

Today I am very thankful to God for my wonderful, amazing husband. Happy Valentines Day, Tim!

22 years ago.....

A gift from my Valentine this morning!

23 years ago today I received my first bouquet of red roses from Tim. He was 4,000 miles away and we hadn't seen each other for almost 6 years, but we were falling madly in love.
Today, a lot of years later, we are still crazy about each other!

Our mountain and our town

It snowed again! I am ready for spring but I don't mind the snow. I enjoyed walking in it today. The sun and clouds and shadows were beautiful!

Tyler in Texas

Tyler flew to Texas on Tuesday of this week to attend a scholarship competition which is being held at LeTourneau University this weekend. We are hoping of course that he might have a chance at winning something, but more than that, we are very thankful that he is able to be at LeTourneau to get a taste of college life. LeTu is where he hopes to enroll in the fall.
Besides participating in the competition (which involves writing essays, interviews, and a group activity) he is attending classes, staying in the dorm, eating meals in the dining hall, etc.
He was able to fly with Deena who is also a senior at BFA. She hopes to attend LeTu as well. Deena's grandparents have been so gracious to host Tyler before and after the competition. They sent some pictures of Tyler hanging out at their home.
Tyler's luggage did not arrive with him when he flew into Dallas, and he was still without it when they drove to LeTu yesterday. It is being delivered to him sometime this morning - we hope in time for the actual competition. Needless to say, he is ready for a change of clothes! He has been a good sport about it, though.
We'll post some more pictures of his campus visit later on.

Happy Birthday, Luke!

Today is Luke's 20th Birthday. Our son has left his teens behind. How did this happen?! Time has gone too quickly, that's for sure! We wish we could be with him today to help him celebrate. We love you, Luke! Happy Birthday from Germany!

I have been perusing old albums again. What a flood of wonderful memories they hold! Here are some pictures taken shortly after Luke was born.

Snow Day!

Today was our BFA snow day, an annual tradition sometimes warranted by bad weather and sometimes not! What it is really intended to be is a morale booster where school is canceled and all of the students love Mr. Shuman, at least for one day!
It started last night with snow falling and the phone ringing and ringing and students messaging us on facebook, begging for a snow day. An unnamed girls' dorm even stopped by our house to spray our windows with fake snow and left a pile of snow by our entrance and on our car, hoping to win Tim over! They will all be getting detentions from the Director tomorrow! Haha!

Sledding and snowboarding this afternoon near our house (on the snow-covered golf course!)

Noyah convinced Tim to go sledding with him - on a snowboard! It worked better than the sleds!

These guys tried riding a snowboard down the hill - standing up! They didn't get very far!

Sunday afternoon date

This is my favorite place to go for Kaffee und Kuchen. Tim likes this little cafe as well, so we visited it today on an afternoon date. We are very sad to hear that it is closing in a month.

I love the way this quaint place is decorated, especially the blue tile "baseboards" that look like delft (Dutch pottery).

The best part - wonderful hot drinks and delicious homemade cakes (huge slices as you can see!)

Cappuccino, apricot cake, and Mon Cheri torte......
